What program do you guys use for writing?

I have this new story idea eating my brain, and it's the first time I've had this happen in a long time, so I really want to get it out and get back into the habit of writing... but I have all these pieces from different points in the story, and Word just feels so clunky, so I'm looking for options!

So, [ profile] barbed_whispers just screamed at me for updating my LJ with not a real update, so I guess I'll do a real one.

Life has been pretty crazy for me. For those of you who don't know, I got fired in December, right before Christmas. I have never been fired before, and it felt pretty shitty, even though I know the company was full of assholes and shady practices and whatnot. I don't even want to get into all that here, cause it's long and convoluted and honestly I'm done being bitter about them and whatever, but it's enough to say that it's better for me to be away from them anyway, what with the lawsuits that are headed their way, but still, you know? No one likes being fired... especially right before Christmas, which was just special.

Despite that, [ profile] imthelobster and I went on the vacation we had planned to Vermont, to be with his family for Christmas. It was unseasonably warm up there, which meant not as much snow as I would have hoped for, but it's still gorgeous there. Seriously, everything is just so pretty that it's ridiculous. Also, I want to move away from Orlando so bad, have I mentioned that recently? Anyway, the trip was lovely all around. His family is pretty much awesome. I've met his parents before of course, but it was my first time meeting his extended family, and it was a lot of fun... they're all so welcoming and such too. Basically: his family rocks.

So I was able to find a job relatively quickly after we got back home; I just started last week. It's not ideal, because it's only about 30-32 hours a week, and it's a crazy shift (3am-9am, M-F) BUT it's a job, and I'll take what I can get right now. I'm working at UPS through a temp. agency, but it's a one year contract. It's at one of their factory places or whatever, and basically 3 hours or so of my shift is spent monitoring the machines/people as packages get unloaded from the trucks, looking for different percentages and making sure things work properly etc., and the other 3 hours or so is for doing paperwork relating to that. Honestly, the paperwork doesn't take me 3 hours even now, and I've only done it for 4 days, so that part is stupid easy. I've already been told to bring a book with me to work, hahaha. It's a very easy job in general, but a little difficult physically, what with all the running around, and my knees are just not very good. Hopefully that won't be a problem in the long run though. It will never be a job that I love, but I think I can do it, and do it well, and that's enough for right now.

In other things, I've been reading the Beka Cooper books by Tamora Pierce. SHOCKING REVELATION: I love them. Beka is no Kel, of course, and she's no Alanna either, but the books are super entertaining, and Beka is kickass, and it's awesome to get a look back at Tortall how is was in the past. So much the same, and yet so much different. Tamora Pierce does it wonderfully. I really should read her other world stuff too at some point. When I finish the third Beka book, though, it's on to my re-read of Hunger Games.

SPEAKING OF, I am ridiculously excited for the Hunger Games movie. I hope it's as good as it should be, and as good as it looks like it's going to be, because oh man. I might just flip out from excitement.

Uh, what else. I'm watching lots of TV and such, but I don't have much to say about most of it, cause I get my flails out either with [ profile] imthelobster, my mom, or by just scrolling through a ridiculous amount of pages on tumblr.

I've been wanting to get back into the habit of taking a lot of pictures / photography in general, mostly because [ profile] imthelobster has this awesome camera and takes gorgeous shots with it, but I've been lazy (story of my life) and haven't actually done anything about it.

Oh, but speaking of his camera and stuff, I don't remember if he posted his Hogwarts posters on LJ or not, but if you haven't seen them, go poke him a lot, because they are freaking beautiful, and I totally want them printed and hanging on my wall, for serious. ♥ ♥

Okay I think I'm done for now.

Other than [ profile] barbed_whispers hacking my journal, it's been more than a month since I posted... though I guess that isn't overly unusual for me anymore. So let's do a check up on my life, I know you're all SO interested!

1) Work
The new job is going pretty well. I'm slowly securing my place there more and more, and everyone seems to like me and the work I do. The office itself is still in transition, however, and there's a lot of turnover at the moment, which is nerve-wracking. However, I figure I'll just do the best I can and go from there, since that's about all I have to offer.

We negotiated a salary for myself, which was strange for me as I've never done that before. But it was nice, too, because I was able to get in the range I wanted, and go there 5 days a week and leave Bubba Gump. That was a little sad for me, partly because I honestly loved that job, and partly because of the awesome discount on Universal merchandise, but it was the best decision for me (and my sanity) overall, so I'm pleased with that.

2) Fun Things
Speaking of that awesome Universal discount, I totally went into IOA my second-to-last day at Bubba Gump, and spent way too much money on Harry Potter merch. >.> But I got a hoodie that I love, a shirt for [ profile] imthelobster, and a couple keychains and misc things. ♥

On Sunday, [ profile] imthelobster and I actually had some rare time to be able to spend together, so we ended up going out to Wekiva Springs for a few hours, which was soooo nice. I haven't been out there in ages, but it was awesome to be able to just relax in the water and spend some time together and whatnot.... even if the dragonflies WERE trying to eat our faces off!

3) TV
MERLIN IS BACK MERLIN IS BACK MERLIN IS BACK!!! omg you guys I cannot even TELL you how much I love this ridiculous show ♥ ♥ ♥

And in sillier news, I have totally and completely gotten addicted to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which is totally [ profile] barbed_whispers fault >.> I have been marathoning it like crazy, and I REGRET NOTHING.

The only new show I've picked up this season is Ringer, which... honestly is pretty bad, but then somehow I keep watching it. Don't ask me to explain why, because idek. Other than that I'm watching Castle still, OF COURSE, along with Glee, and How I Met Your Mother. We're working on catching up with Fringe, and then Bones starts next month... we're also still doing our re-watch of SG-1, which will eventually translate into watching Atlantis and Universe. AND I still need to/want to actually start on Dr. Who.

....somehow I always end up watching more TV than I think I do o.O

I GOT A JOB! ::flops around::

It's sort of a temp job, but with great potential to go permanent as long as they like me, which they seem to so far. I've only worked a couple days, but stilllll. I'm doing data entry, and other misc. tasks, for a property management company. It's super easy, repetitive, boring work, and I am SO GLAD to be doing it.

I'm keeping the weekend job at Bubba Gump, too, at least until I know that this one goes permanent. It took freaking long enough.

My mother and I are currently trying to hook up the new toilet in my spare bathroom. Being the genius home-repair women that we are, we just cut the water pipe... but forgot to turn the water off first...

That was a truly exciting couple of minutes. >.<'

I am such a mix of things right now.

1) I loved the last Harry Potter movie. I cried through most of it, and I am not ashamed. It made me feel a lot of ~feelings~ and I really want to post on it more, but I am distracted and also I want to see it again to process it a bit more.

2) [ profile] imthelobster and I got a new kitten, who is absolutely, ridiculously adorable. I love him to much. I need to post pics at some point, I suppose.

3) And the bad thing, the thing which is dampening the two good things above by quite a bit: one of my friends is in the hospital right now, and her condition is pretty bad. Since I've known her she's always had a lot of health issues (she's ex-military and was disabled during her time with the Navy, among other things) but she got suddenly WAY worse. They don't know what happened to her for sure -- it could have been an accidental drug overdose (she's on a LOT of prescription meds) or it's even possible she had a stroke. She's not coherent right now really at all, and there's not an answer yet on whether or not she's going to get better. I'm just really, really worried.

[ profile] imthelobster and I are heading to the beach! Since he's on vacation this week and not during our anniversary, so we're celebrating early with a couple days out at the beach.

So also, [ profile] barbed_whispers told me I should post every day in July... clearly that won't happen, since it's the fifth now, but I downloaded the LJ app with the idea that I might post more if I can do it from my phone. We shall see!

In one more piece of news, I have a job interview after we get back, on Friday. I've had a lot of them the last couple months, but maybe this one will be the one... I can only hope. Wish me luck!

The job hunt marches on...

But besides that!

I've been rereading the Tortall books lately. Why are the Daine books so booooring? Trying to get through the third one now, and the boringboringboring fourth one... but then there's Kel books waiting for me at the end of that, which makes it worth it, kind of. Skipping them would mean this wasn't a true reread, right? Do I care? Bah.

Once I finish those, though, I think I'm going to revisit my reread of the Song of Ice and Fire series. Is anyone watching the Game of Thrones tv show? I've only seen the first episode so far, but I liked it a lot, and want to continue asap. I'll have more ~thoughts~ once I see more, but whether or not I'll remember to post them on livejournal is up in the air.
Hey, does the tv show mean a real fandom might pop up for this series? This has potential... I haven't really fandomed anything in a while. Hmm.

Okay, this boring entry was brought to you by [ profile] barbed_whispers and the LJ nudge feature.

Oh! Any White Collar fans, you need to be reading Exquisite by [ profile] copperbadge if you aren't already. You're welcome!

[ profile] elleren was here visiting the past few days, and we did a lot of fun stuff!

On Sunday we 'celebrated' Easter by going to Epcot. It's been a long time since I've actually done Epcot, and it was a blast. We made our way around the world, doing all the shops and most of the rides/shows as we went. We ate in France, and had nummy foods. Also, it's the Flower and Garden Festival right now, which I didn't realize until we got there, and seeing all the topiary things was cool, too. We did a couple of the rides in the front of the park, too, but mostly just focused on the World Showcase. For a theme park, it was a pretty chill/relaxing day.

Monday we spent in Hogsmeade! :D :D
Okay, not the whole time, though. We did pretty much the whole Islands of Adventure park, but we started in Hogsmeade, where we discovered the incredible joy of single rider lines. Seriously. Our wait for the Forbidden Journey? 5 minutes. All in walk time. It was amazing. We also lucked out on that one and all three managed to be in the same car/flyer/whatever, despite having gone through the single rider line. The ride was amazing, of course, even if I do have to keep my eyes covered through the entirety of the forest. I did see the whomping willow this time, though! Last time I rode it I wasn't sure when it was safe, so I missed the whomping willow entirely, haha.
We also did the roller coaster, whatever it's called... dueling dragons, heh. That one had a really short line anyway. We skipped the Hippogryph ride, cause eh, and Ollivander's had a crazy line (surprise, surprise) so we skipped that, too. We did have lunch at Three Broomsticks, though :D Man, Hodsmeade puts me in such a happy place.

After spending a good amount of time in there we moved on to the rest of the park. We did the Jurassic Park water ride... the last time I was on that ride was on a field trip with school before the park was officially open, and it broke down when my boat was on the steep hill and we sat there for 20 minutes. It was much more enjoyable without that delay! It started to rain after that, and there was apparently lightning in a five mile radius, cause most of the rides shut down for a while. we headed over to Spiderman, which ended up being our longest wait at just about 20 minutes. I love the single rider line!

The rides were open again after that, so we went back and hit up the barges (which really should have been first, probably... [ profile] imthelobster was not pleased about our wet butts in his car) then did the Hulk, both of which we basically just walked onto.
We did head back over to Harry Potter to hit up Honeydukes and buy some candy, and then that was about it for our day.

Tuesday [ profile] imthelobster had to work, unfortunately. [ profile] elleren and I made the best of it, though, and headed out to Cocoa Beach. It was a great beach day, and we had a really nice time, but he refused to wear sunscreen and so burnt pretty bad. I did wear sunscreen, but apparently I didn't apply it very well, as I am now burnt in patches. You can laugh... it's pretty funny looking. Thankfully normal clothes cover it up, though, so I don't look ridiculous if I want to go anywhere.

That was about it for [ profile] elleren's trip. He left ridiculously early yesterday morning.

On a different front, I think I didn't post it here, but I have been unemployed for the last month or so and have been on the job hunt. I did get something, had my second day of training yesterday, but it's only for a very part time position, which sucks for multiple reasons. I'm working in the office of Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company, a restaurant out at City Walk, and the job would be perfect for me, if it was full time. Unfortunately there's not a chance of that, so I'm trying to find something else to go along with it now, too. But training is going well, and I like the job, so yay for that!

Also, it means I will be out at City Walk every weekend, so if anyone is ever going to hit up the parks, let me know and I can meet you! The latest I'll ever work is 3pm, so I would have a good amount of time out there if you're ever interested. :)

So, I volunteered for a late shift at work for the next month (4pm-1230am) for a call center they were setting up to help with insurance questions for people in Japan. I was kind of excited by this, and my team manager was all thrilled too cause it's a 'great opportunity' and all this jazz. It started yesterday, and we took exactly 0 calls. So, today they called me as I'm getting ready to leave, and tell me that they still haven't had a single call, so my hours are being cut for today. Fantastic. This is what I get for volunteering for a trial thing, I guess.

Tomorrow they're letting me work my normal shift, at least, so I won't lose two days, but it's not much comfort to be honest. I've lost a lot of work in the past couple weeks because I got sick. It's just aggravating.

In other news, [ profile] imthelobster and I watched Tangled today. I really liked it... actually, I was surprised at how much I liked it. Oh, Disney, when you do it right, you really do it right... too bad they don't do it right as often as they used to.

[ profile] imthelobster and I finally took advantage of one of our Christmas gifts from my parents today, and went and got our annual passes to Universal, and then spent a few hours in Hogsmeade for the first time ever. OH MY GOD. I can't believe it took me this long to get there, because holy hell was it so awesome.

We did the Flight of the Hippogriff ride, which was okay, and we also did the Forbidden Journey, which was awesome (even though I was covering my eyes for like a third of it, STUPID SPIDERS)

We didn't do the Dragon Challenge ride, or go into the wand shop, but that gives us new things to do next time! It was really crowded, so we only did a short pass through Zonkos and Honeydukes, but still: awesome. We did, however, wait in line to be able to eat at Three Broomsticks, which was fun. Mmm, frozen Butterbeer...

I can't wait to go back :D

Also, I want to actually do the rest of the park, and also the Studios, at some point.

I have the best boyfriend ever ♥

When [ profile] imthelobster got home from school tonight, we went out and got new phones, and I now have an iphone 4! :D Or, well, I will. They were out of stock on the 16gig, and we didn't see the need to get the 32gig, so we'll have them in the mail by the end of the week. STILL SO EXCITED!!! Also, I am majorly happy that Verizon got the iphones... I was going to get a Droid, since I refuse to go with AT&T, but now I didn't have to choose one or the other :D

Actually, I still almost went with the Droid just cause I like the actual keyboard (plus this is still one of the best things ever), but I played with the on-screen one in the Verizon store tonight, and it wasn't as awkward as I expected, and I know I'll get used to it pretty quickly. Also, they've apparently fixed the thing with the antenna that was messing up reception when you used a case, which is a bonus.

So, yeah. OMG IPHONE!!! Best Valentine's Day gift ever :D :D

(ps: keeping our numbers when switching from one provider to another was much easier than expected, thank god, because I was not willing to lose the phone number I've had since ninth grade, heh)

(pps: I had other things to post about, but I am le tired. Perhaps I will update more than once in a month!)
athra: ([Locke Lamora] Gentlemen Bastards)
I have a new banner on my journal for the first time in a while, courtesy of [ profile] imthelobster. It makes me happy. ♥

I also just finished rereading The Lies of Locke Lamora a couple days ago, and am in the process of rereading Red Seas Under Red Skies now, which also makes me happy. I love these books so ridiculously, I don't even know. I NEED The Republic of Thieves NOOOOOW.

In other exciting (at least to me) news: The curtains I bought for my living room and kitchen a year ago are FINALLY up! Also, we have a dining room table now, so if we ever wanted people over for dinner, you know, we could do that. AMAZING. I really should take pictures, though. It makes a huge difference... I like the house a lot better with these small changes.
athra: ([HIMYM] suit up!)
I feel like such crap today. I don't really know how that happened. Yesterday I was fine, and today when I woke up I was so dizzy I felt like I was going to fall every time I tried to stand, so I called out of work and went back to bed for a while, and then stayed in bed hours after I woke up again just reading.

I couldn't stand just laying in bed anymore, though, so now I'm up and my head is hurting and my neck is all ache-y (which may just be from staying in bed so long and not from any sickness, I dunno.) It's weird though... I don't feel sick in the traditional sense, just like a lot of crap.

Ugh, it still sucks though.

okay. end whining.

My Uncle Danny randomly came into town this weekend, so I went and had lunch with him and my mom today. It was nice... I haven't seen him in years. It's been a really long time since I've seen any of that part of the family, really. He has a daughter (who didn't come with him) that's like... 5 now? I have a 5 year old cousin I have never seen in person. It's just kind of sad, I guess. I should try to find a way to go and visit everyone up in Ohio at some point.

Happy New Year everyone!
I really liked tracking my reading last year, so I'm planning on doing it again this year. I met my reading goal last year, which is exciting. Went over it, actually, ending at 66/50... the list of what I read is here. I actually managed to read more new books than rereads, too... just barely, but I didn't think it was going to end up that way until I actually counted.

I'm giving myself the same goal of 50 books this year, no matter if they're rereads or new.
Also, I'm attempting [ profile] getyourwordsout again, even though I failed pretty spectacularly last year. But, try and try again and all that.
