First, and possibly most importantly:
LEE SCORESBY FTW.
Seriously. He was perfect. I love him so much in the books, and now I love him so much in the movies, and LOVE.

The casting overall was really good, I thought. I even ended up really liking Nicole Kidman, even though I wasn't completely sold on her when the casting was announced.

The movie was also pretty perfect visually, I thought. Like, it just looked really good.

The pacing was a little... weird. Like it was both too fast and too slow at the exact same time? But considering how long you go in the books without knowing what the fuck is going on I'm not really sure how they could have fixed it, so there is that.

Mostly, I loved the movie a lot, and I want to reread the books SO BAD now.

Apparently they filmed it, but didn't put it in because they aren't sure if they're doing the next two movies? but wtf, how do you START a movie with Roger dying and Lyra entering a new world?

I was all preparing myself for Roger to be gone, too, and then it was OVER and like... that wounded me.

I said the same thing, but they aren't sure if the movie is going to take off like LotR or fall flat on its face like Eragon.

Frankly I think its stuck somewhere in between. Lee and Iorck were awesome. Lyra wasn't so bad. Pan was ADORABLE! Nicole Kidman did a very nice job I thought. They kinda shafted Asrial, they shafted the last 30 pages also because I'm not sure how children would have handled seeing the short of shit.

To be honest, I'll be surprised if they keep it as Asrial slaying Roger. I wonder if they'll change it so he dies by some other means. Accidental or perhaps brought on by someone else who is "evil" who kills him. It'd also be slightly depressing for a movie to end with the death of someone the main protagonist tried to save. Since this is Hollywood, that sort of stuff doesn't sell. I dunno... I'm surprised they talked about dust as much as they did.

I'm a bit on the shelf about the movie on a whole. It wasn't great for me, but it could've been a lot worse. Iorck and Lee are all I really cared about anyway and like you said, perfect. >>;
